The Summer Hair Care Tips You Need to Know
Summer is finally just around the corner and that means sunbathing, beer gardens and plenty of time spent enjoying that glorious sunshine. With this in mind, now is also the perfect time to think about how you’re going to protect your hair throughout the summer months, with excess sun exposure and the potential mix of sea and sand. The sun can cause your hair to become dull, dry and damaged, but with these top tips you’ll be able to keep your hair looking and feeling its best, whatever the summer throws at you.
Stay Protected
Just like our skin, our hair needs to be protected from the sun throughout the day. You wouldn’t sit in the sun for hours on end without sun cream or protective clothing, so why let your hair suffer? By simply wearing a hat during the hottest part of the day, you can keep your scalp and hair protected from the sun, whilst still being able to enjoy being outdoors. Whether it’s a stylish straw hat, or a trendy cap, adding that extra bit of protection will really help to keep your strands healthy.
Get a Fresh Trim
Dependant on the length of your hair, it’s often beneficial to get your hair cut before you spend lots of time in the sun. By having a fresh trim, you’re able to remove any dead or split ends that can cause your hair to look and feel frizzy and dry. You’ll also find that your hair is much easier to control and style. Regularly getting your hair cut is a really good way of keeping it healthy and strong, and it’s also extremely refreshing too.
Use Products Wisely
There are so many fantastic products available on the market, but you want to ensure you’re using the right ones when spending time in the sun. Ideally, you want a fragrance-free product to avoid any unwanted bugs flying around your head due to attraction from the scent. By using the right shampoo and styling products you can keep your hair fresh whilst looking good at the same time.
Avoid Additional Heat
For many men and women, the sun can cause hair to become slightly frizzy and out of control, this can be quickly fixed with a trusty pair of hair straighteners. However, by using straighteners on your hair after or during a day of excessive sun exposure, you’re running the risk of damaging your hair further. If you’re going to use heat on your hair for styling purposes, always use a heat protection spray or oil to ensure you’re adding protection to the area, otherwise this could add to the dry, damaged feel that you want to avoid.
